In 1972, “Old City Park” began the event you now know and love as Candlelight. That first year, Millermore was beautifully decorated, cookies and punch were served, and the St. Mark’s Boys Choir sang. But the weather was terrible and only 8 people came! Yet, something about that event worked, and we carried on. Over the decades, there have been many ups and downs and changes for Candlelight, but unlike any other event at this organization, it survives.
But this year is very different. With the ongoing pandemic and rising case numbers here in Dallas County, it isn’t safe to host a large event like Candlelight. Instead, we’re offering extended holiday hours throughout December to experience the holiday traditions that you know and love at Dallas Heritage Village.
And though the big weekends of Candlelight will not be happening, elements of the Candlelight you love will be on the grounds. The Village will be fully decorated. Many of the vendors and entertainers you enjoy will be making an appearance at some point in December. We are working furiously to find ways to bring some of your favorite parts of Candlelight to you in December, even if it’s smaller and socially distanced. Be on the lookout for the schedule, so you can choose the best day to come and get your DHV holiday fix!
For those that have generously sponsored Candlelight, thank you! Those funds are enabling us to make this important shift to Holiday Hours.
We are honored to be an important part of your holiday traditions. We hope to see you during December for Holiday Hours, and we look forward to celebrating 50 years of Candlelight with you next year!
Thank you,
